QuickTime is a remarkable product. It does much more than just play video. There are over 200 file formats that QuickTime can understand, which cover graphics, video, streaming video, MIDI, audio and even text.

One of these is QuickTime VR, which allows you to view a full 360 degrees around a central point. So you get to see not only what the photographer wanted you to see, but the rest of the scene as well. YOU control the point of view.

To view the QuickTime VR scenes on this page, you need to download and install QuickTime. The installation puts a series of files in your operating system and a plug-in in your browser. If you don't already have Quicktime installed, click here to get hold of it...

Duyfken has been designed as an authentic replica. Installation of modern machinery and extra ballasting to comply with current survey requirements were undertaken after initial sailing trials.

Duyfken performs well under sail. She easily makes 4 knots in moderate conditions and frequently reaches 7 knots.

"Planks were pre-bent to shape over an open fire. Our shipwrights learned this archaic technique, bending the 60mm thick planks which form the lower planking. At first it seemed very difficult; probably too many levers, pulleys, fulcrums and weights were used. The shipwrights eventually just let the planks droop slowly under their own weight over a slow fire. In a good week the team under Bill Leonard would fit a full port and starboard strake of planks."
