Latitude 30 33.9 N Longitude 32 46.5E The day began early for Da Zhong as she prepared to move at 0100hrs, then with the pilot in control she entered the canal. At around 0600hrs we passed under a huge bridge built by a Japanese firm. The approaches to the high main span appeared to be about a kilometre long. We passed through Lake Timsah, then more canal, till at midday we anchored in Great Bitter Lake in dead calm water. Many other ships were at anchor here, all facing in different directions. Some more èmerchantmenî boarded ú this time only occupying the corridor of one level, and not as pushy as the previous lot. We then slowly made our way through the lake heading for Little Bitter Lake then the remainder of the lake to Suez. At 1645 hrs we dropped anchor not far from the bottom end of the Suez Canal where the pilot and èmerchantmenî left us. We are now at the top of the Red Sea. At 1800hrs a supply tanker came alongside to replenish the fuel supply and by 2000hrs we were on our way, heading for the next port of Dampier. The captain told me that we should reach Dampier in 17 days time. You bewdy mate!
