The Best Outdoor Learning Centre on the Planet…

Well, that’s what all the Year 4 students who attend the Duyfken Education Program over the course of the year reckon.

This program is something special, linking the school social studies program with a visit to Duyfken to get a real hands-on experience of Dutch maritime history, the Spice Trade and what it was like to live and sail aboard a ship like this over 400 years ago.

During nine weeks of Term 2, we had 39 schools and a total of 2,207 students visit the ship. Their educational experience was skilfully delivered by our team of 25 School Guide Volunteers, coordinated daily by our team leader Elly. Mike Lefroy helped us greatly in developing this year’s new program, a program that has added a bit more fun and learning for the students.
