Sri Lanka's Sunday Observer newspaper has given high praise indeed to the visit of Duyfken to the historic port of Galle.
Staff writer Asiff Hussein said in his feature article on Duyfken in the 9 September edition:
"Never since Thor Heyedahl's famed Kon-Tiki expedition has a re-enactment voyage aroused such public interest as that of Duyfken which sailed into Galle Harbour last week."
". . . .Ever since then, Age of Discovery voyages undertaken on replica ships based on some old originals have captured the fancy of many an adventurer. But none surpasses the Duyfken."
The enthusiastic response in Sri Lanka was reflected in more than 12,000 people visiting the ship while she was in port in Galle.
The visit also showcased Galle's world heritage listed VOC Fort and historic buildings, and the tourism attractions of southern Sri Lanka.
