Leaving Fremantle
Duyfken left Fremantle harbour on April 8, 2000, and was farewelled by a large crowd and a colourful fleet of boats. These photos give a feel for what the send-off was like.

From Fremantle to Broome
The first part of the expedition takes Duyfken northward along the west coast of Western Australia, calling in at Geraldton, Denham, Canarvon, Exmouth, Dampier, Port Hedland and Broome.

GALLERY 3
From Broome to Banda
Duyfken left Australian waters at Broome and sailed towards Kupang in Timor. She then sailed to Flores and into the Banda Sea, sailing to Wetar and on to Banda near Ambon.

GALLERY 4
In the famed Spice Islands of Indonesia
Duyfken sailed to the home of the nutmeg tree, the Banda Islands, the place where the original Duyfken set sail on her original voyage of discovery to Australia in late 1605.

GALLERY 5
From Banda, Indonesia to Cape York, Australia
Duyfken sailed from Banda to re-trace Captain Willem Janszoon's voyage of Discovery to the Pennefather River on Cape York Peninsula, Queensland.

Duyfken arrives in Australia four centuries later
Duyfken sailed to the Pennefather River to mark the first time recorded in history that Europeans arrived in Australia and Aboriginal people met people from the outside world.
