The first part of the expedition takes Duyfken northward along the west coast of Western Australia, calling in at Geraldton, Denham, Canarvon, Exmouth, Dampier, Port Hedland and Broome.

Duyfken left Australian waters at Broome and sailed towards Kupang in Timor. She then sailed to Flores and into the Banda Sea, sailing to Wetar and on to Banda near Ambon.

Duyfken sailed to the home of the nutmeg tree, the Banda Islands, the place where the original Duyfken set sail on her original voyage of discovery to Australia in late 1605.
